Windows 10 end of support will mean tight PC stocks

Windows 10 end of support is scheduled for October 14 2025. This means that if you haven’t made the move yet, you should start planning to upgrade your operating system to Windows 11.

A key reason for this is that after the Windows 10 end of support date, it will no longer receive security updates, and this could leave your PC fleet vulnerable to attack. Other considerations are compliance with cybersecurity insurance requirements and the reluctance of other businesses to trade with non-secure partners.

Believe it or not, Windows 11 was released on 5th October 2021, so it is already over three years old. In that time it has proven a stable and reliable product.

However, it is not just the software that you need to consider. If your machine is older and of a lower specification it may not be able to run Windows 11. You can check the ability of your fleet to run Windows 11 by downloading the PC Health Check app.

PC Shortage

One thing to consider is that, as the rush to upgrade to Windows 11 gains momentum as the Windows 10 end of support gets closer, there will also be a rush to upgrade the hardware on which it runs. This could lead to shortages in product, and as we have seen in a mid-COVID and post-COVID world this is a real issue.

The tip here is not to leave it too late to plan your upgrades, as you may be caught short. Begin now to check your hardware compatibility.
