Test your cybersecurity
There is an excellent new tool available where you can test your cybersecurity and produce a report of the findings.
The Cyber Security Assessment Tool is found at https://www.cyber.gov.au/resources-business-and-government/essential-cyber-security/protecting-your-business-and-employees/test-your-cyber-security.
The tool has been prepared by the Australian Federal Government’s Department of Industry, Science, Energy and Resources and the Australian Signals Directorate. It’s a resource that we recommend you use. Answering the questionnaire should only take about 10 minutes. When finished you get a comprehensive report of about 14 pages with recommendations for your business.
How to test your cybersecurity
The tool helps you test your cybersecurity by asking questions about how you manage cybersecurity in your business. It will determine your cybersecurity maturity level based on your answers. Are you a Starter, Developing, Graduate or Champion? The test helps you see where your strengths lie as well as areas where you can improve. It also provides tips for further actions to improve, some now and some for later. It also offers a list of extra resources to help you lock down your business.
The areas covered include multi-factor authentication, backup strategies, software installation, third party handling of your data, mobile devices, and recovering after an incident. Each subject for action includes steps to take, links to guidance on the subject, and an explanation as to why that part of cybersecurity is important.
You can download the results as a PDF so you have it on hand as a working document. You can always go back to the tool to test your cybersecurity again when you have actioned the recommendations.
